I love donuts. Where I grew up, there were donut shops everywhere! Unfortunately, there are not that many where I live now. So, when we want a nice treat that is not too expensive, we make homemade donuts.
You may have already heard how to do this, but I thought I would share just in case. We take biscuits (just plain, nothing fancy), cut the centers out with a bottle lid (water bottle, 2-Liter bottle, Gatoraid bottle, etc.), and deep fry them in vegetable oil. To make icing, we mix vanilla (a little bit goes a long way), milk, and powdered sugar. Now, I am going to say something that I hate hearing. I never measure the ingredients on this one thing. Basically, start with a small amount of milk and vanilla and a large amount of powdered sugar. Then add either more milk or more sugar to get the consistency that you want. That is it!
We had homemade donuts for dessert last night. What is your favorite quick and easy treat? Head over to Rocks in my Dryer for more great tips.

That sounds scrumptious!
A friend gave me this same recipe last summer. We tried it and rolled them in cinnamon and sugar after frying (instead of frosting)...
Yum!
Yummm. That sounds easy and delicious! I'm just seeing your blog for the first time, but I've bookmarked it. Love your prayer request section.
I've been wanting to make doughnuts for a while now. I think I could handle this recipe!
Blessings,
Karla
On the Foodnetwork, I have also seen them leave the middles in and fill them with a cream or jelly filling. They use those red/yellow bottles that normally hold ketchup/mustard.
You can also add chocolate syrup to the icing and have chocolate donuts.
I've never done this, but it sounds yummy! How come you never made these for me when we were living there?? :-)
I have a homemade donut recipe that actually uses mashed potatoes. Sounds gross, but they're delicious!! I love donuts :)
My mom used to make homemade doughnuts and I so miss them. I might try to make some for my kids. Thanks!
This was one of my favorite things as a kid. Mom would give us bags of powdered sugar and another with cinnomon to shake them in. Yum! I need to make some...I am hungry now.
Okay, you've inspired me to do this! When my company comes over on Friday, they're in for a treat! Here from Rocks in My Dryer...
Yum, Tiffany! Those sound yummy -- we'll have to try it...I actually clicked on your link from Rocks in my Dryer before I realized it was you! :)
Great idea. Thanks, I've always wanted to make donuts.
We eat these in a restaurant we frequent often ... they melt butter and honey and pour it over them while hot ... sooooo yummy!!! I could eat the whole basket!
My absolute favorite easy dessert when my husband and I were first married 37+ years ago...We always ate by candlelight. I was such a rotten cook, it helped to not have to look at the food! Then, once we managed to eat a fair portion of the meal, we would get out the marshmallows and toast them over the candles. That was one sweet way to end the meal! We did that for over two years, until the heir apparent was old enough to start grabbing for the candle flames.
